Common Sinus Conditions And Allergy Treatment PA Alternatives

By Marsha P. Baroney

Many individuals who suffer from chronic allergies and related symptoms decide to investigate their condition and the many allergy treatment PA options available to relieve their symptoms. These allergies are frequently the result of their immune system reacting to a foreign substance. In the case of the majority of people, this reaction is normal, not excessive, and protects their bodies from dangerous viruses, bacteria, and other harmful substances that could make them sick. However, for a some others the reaction is more serious, causing the immune system to make antibodies that identify an allergen as harmful, even though it isn't, which inflames the skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system in some cases, and a plethora of other symptoms. The list below describes a few of the most common auto immune reactions.

Allergic rhinitis, also called hay fever, is one of the most common allergies, which causes a multitude of cold like symptoms like itchy eyes and nose, runny nose, congestion, sneezing, sinus pressure, among others. However, it is not caused by a virus, unlike a cold is, but rather by outdoor and inside allergens like pollen, dust mites, and pet dander.

Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is an allergic reaction that causes the skin to erupt into red and irritated rashes that include, but are not limited to, the arms, legs, and behind the knees, and elbows. The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but doctors theorize that it might result from a combination of inherited genetic traits like a dysfunctional immune system and sensitive skin. This is a long-lasting (chronic) condition that is sometimes accompanied by asthma or hay fever, and tends to flare up and then subside.

Food allergies affect a large percentage of children and adults, and result from an auto immune reaction that happens when a person eats even a small amount of an allergy-causing food. This immune system response could result in digestive problems, hives, constricted breathing, and even anaphylactic shock.

Insect bite allergies are caused by an overly strong immune reaction to insect venom. The symptoms can include swelling at the site of the bite, itching, rashes, coughing, chest tightening, wheezing or shortness of breath, and in serious cases, anaphylactic shock.

Drug allergies happen when the immune system has an abnormal reaction to a medication a person takes. These reactions can include fevers, hives, rashes, and can be triggered by several different kinds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. This can, unfortunately, happen anytime - even in case where an individual takes a medication that they had never had a reaction to in the past. This is not to be confused with an adverse drug reaction, which is not triggered by the immune system, but can have similar symptoms.

Although allergies cannot be completely cured, there are number of allergy and sinusitis treatment pa options that can help relieve allergy symptoms. These services include taking allergy drops, shots, some non-invasive surgical procedures, and a vast selection of alternative treatment methods.
