Why You Need Emotional Intelligence Coaching

By Margaret Richardson

Performance of an individual in a job has so much to do with the success of an organization. When employees do their job well, the outcome or success of the organization is almost guaranteed. Sadly, emotions play a huge role in job performance. Therefore, it is important to go through emotional intelligence coaching so as to manage these emotions positively.

The performance of an employee will depend on whether they have fear, are angry, sad, happy, surprised or trusted. As such, it is important to manage their state of mind in as far as these feelings are concerned. The efforts to control the feelings of employees will never be in vain. When employees are happy and contented, they will deliver to the expectations of the organization.

An organization may want to involve a skilled coach to work on the emotional intelligence of its workforce. This is recommended but individual initiative also works. Before reaching out for help, the organization may want to encourage its workforce to evaluate their own emotions and understand themselves first. The skilled support can help correct the defects on the emotions as discovered.

The process of understanding your own emotions has many advantages. For a task to complete to expectation, the worker needs to believe they can do the task to the expected level. This feeling will make them feel free to communicate upward and voice their thoughts. They would not close on their thoughts. Their ideas will be incorporated into strategies and this will even motivate them more. Whenever they are invited to meetings with their managers, the workers will be more at ease to express their ideas.

The free expression is normally countered by lack of confidence or fear. Whereas it is expected that one would exhibit fear at some point, too much of it would affect performance. A fearful employee will keep useful ideas to themselves and they can even discourage those who wish to share. They will hold back from engaging in tasks that move the organization forward.

This attitude of not engaging can be explained by different experiences. Sometimes it is because a worker does not want to fail again or they simply do not want to try out a job for the first time. Surprisingly, they may not even explain why they are holding back because they do not know. Such a worker cannot deliver as expected.

Therefore, it is best to always endeavor to manage emotions. It all begins with self-assessment. This will open your eyes to the emotional issues you have and then you can counter them. Once you discover your emotional hitch, get to the root of it. What causes it? If you need some coaching, get it soon so that you are emotionally stable.

In managing emotions, one leads by example. You cannot help someone manage their feelings when you are not in control of your own. The process of coaching others emotionally would also sharpen your own emotional intelligence. Simple things like commending what is good and offering support will go a long way. Now you have the secret to gaining a competitive advantage; simply manage emotions of workers.
