There is one ingredient that makes an excellent nutritional meal. It is lentils, containing all the B vitamins and other minerals that are essential to good health. Nutritionists bill this as almost the perfect food due to nutritional content and extremely low cost. They can be used in many different dishes, but easy lentil soup is one of the easiest and favorite of many.

With the range of ingredients that are compatible with lentils, it is easy to serve a family of 7 to 8 for less than 10 dollars. It is possible to meet many different tastes by choosing ingredients that are liked by all family members. Just pick everyone's favorite and vary the selection to meet all tastes.

One thing you can do with lentils is to make a variety of soups. Whether you prefer a spicy or cool soup, or smooth and creamy or chunky, you can have it with these. Even if you just want clear, then that is also possible. Just choose what you want and make it to your taste.

Soup is not the only thing to make with lentils. There are any number of other dishes as well. Being full of fiber, protein, and other important nutrients, you should want to use them in dishes. They can substitute for meats when combined with other ingredients. They are an exceptionally economical protein source for a tight budget.

A good way to make lentils appealing to the whole family is in lentil bowls. Just combine them with whatever vegetables you wish, toss in a hefty serving, and add whatever dressing you prefer. You can vary the dressing to please every family member. Depending on the dressing, you can give the bowl an ethnic taste as well. Add an egg, goat cheese and potatoes to make it a breakfast bowl. Omit the egg and cheese if you want to make it vegan.

If you like Mexican foods, you can do that with lentils. Take some flour tortillas, add a serving of lentils, some roasted cauliflower, and other ingredients that you normally put on a taco. Add a creamy chipotle or avocado sauce for creaminess, and other toppings. You can make the dressings with Greek yogurt for greater health as well.

A salad made with lentils makes a beautiful presentation. Put a bed of spinach or arugula, pile on lentils, add fried Halloumi, and some micro-greens on top. Halloumi is a goat and sheep cheese that is briny and firm white cheese. Top the whole salad with zucchini, thinly sliced, and some roasted heirloom tomatoes. Top with more micro-greens for a garnish.

Shepherds pie makes a hearty holiday dish, and is possible to be made with lentils. Stir fry spicy lentils, some mushrooms, and other vegetables of your choice. This makes a hearty dish. On top, instead of mashed white potatoes, use mashed sweet potatoes with a bread crumb topping. Spice and flavor it to your taste. Experiment and use your creativity to make many dishes. Since they are so cheap, if you mess up and make something your family doesn't like, you haven't wasted much money.
