In addition to ridding the problem, this treatment system also helps the individual to ascertain a higher degree of self-knowledge and acceptance.

Unlike popular treatment approaches used today, holistic therapy does not work by eliminating the symptoms; instead, these are viewed a way of communication between the individual and his or her consciousness. Therefore, instead of trying to eliminate these, the practitioner helps the patient to gain awareness of the state of affairs within their body. With this awareness, the person accepts the situation and lets go of any existing fears; thus, relaxing. Being able to accept the situation and relax is very crucial for this treatment to be effective.

The approach uses three levels of treatment to ensure that the person is fully cured. Each of these levels is targeted at a different aspect of the person; the body, mind and finally spirit. It all begins with the bodywork such as massage as to highlight the areas that are tense. These areas are viewed as manifestations of inhibited emotions.

The next level of treatment involves the use of verbal techniques as to create an understanding of the emotions being released. Here, the patient and expert work together to make sense of the repressed emotions. The aim of this level is to recognize these emotions and reintegrate them as a part of the patient as a whole.

The final level is usually the most complex and may take up to a year or so before completion. The practitioner attempts to educate the patient on philosophy and meditation techniques as a way of gaining control of self. The method can be used to treat depression, anxiety, stress and somatic ailments.
