Learning To Take The Forward Look In Spite Of Difficulties

By Francis Riggs

There are two absolute truths in life, they say: death and taxes. There are also a million other challenges and problems along the way that prevent the forward look. It is inevitable that you will experience adversity at times and you will do so repetitively through life. Looking back to evaluate what went wrong is second nature, but it should not destroy a positive anticipation of a better future to come.

How do you learn to anticipate the future with positivity? To see things in a better light? You can mouth the words, but action speaks louder. You can get advice and counseling, but you must do it yourself in the long run. You alone are the answer to disappointment and depression.

Fixing the errors in your life takes some effort, but it can be rewarding. You can, in effect, have a fresh start. You will need to interact with people and cope with situations to do so. You can't bury your head in the sand forever. There is a life lesson at every turn. Pay attention and take note.

Correct the mistake. If the situation can be salvaged, do so. If it is a mistake at work, own up to it and suggest ways on how to deal with it. If you have wronged a person, apologize. Yes you may be reprimanded but it is but a small consequence to a good life lesson. Shying away or clamming up is not good because you will not know how to correct the situation if it happens again.

Getting counsel helps some people cope better with personal mistakes. It is vital when there is depression and anxiety about them. You need to look beyond your own resources. In fact, it is a sign of strength to look outside oneself. If it has to do with bad habits like smoking or interrupting people in conversation, there are professional techniques that work well. Don't overlook the obvious.

It is not supposed to be unnerving to ask others to help you. They can draw attention to flaws and areas for amelioration. Facing the reality of your actions can be painful but also liberating. It will make you a stronger person. If people hate the way you chew gum loudly in movies, so be it. Change. If you smoke in people's face, so be it. Change.

Find mentors and guides through life who will help focus your thoughts and attitudes. You want strong people who have insight and wisdom. We all have possibilities among our friends and colleagues. It could be a family member, a pastor, or a priest. Use these connections to advance your life and they will help keep you on a solid track.

Prayer is last but not least in our list of suggestions. It can take a big load off your mind. It will give you strength and endurance as you move forward through life. Make it a good habit and a regular concern. There you go for the grace of God.
