Disaster Preparedness Kits And Everything About Them

By Christa Jarvis

Several calamities may strike in different places. These calamities can cause damages to the different properties as well as losses to the lives of humans. To prevent losses to the lives of humans, various government agencies do necessary actions to prepare the members of communities regarding these incidents.

On the other end, community members must do their parts, as well. Disaster preparedness kits will have to be prepared which will include various things that can aid them during these situations. These persons should bear a number of pointers in their minds about these kits.

These kits should include personal belongings. These personal belongings could be moist towelettes, plastic ties and garbage bags that they can use to clean themselves. They can also carry pieces of light clothes so that they can change their clothing if they get wet.

They must also have items which will enable them to treat their wounds possibly caused by the disasters. Medicines for stomach problems and headaches to be lessened should also be packed so that they could be utilized at their temporary dwellings or wherever they are. Band aids should also be packed so that possible wounds and cuts can be treated.

Charges and extra cell phone batteries should also be packed. This way, government agencies and their family members can be contacted in case the families get separated. Whistles can also be brought which could be blown to get immediate help from authorities. Flashlights should also be obtained if ever they need to stay in dark sites. Wrench and pliers are also useful to cut damaged utilities.

All people do not have ideas on when various disasters will strike. For this matter, these items should be ready beforehand. They have to prepare them at the times that they do not have some things to do. They should put these things onto places or areas where the persons can easily grab them. This way, they will not forget these items when disasters occur.

Other persons might say that the items cost a lot and are expensive. For that matter, money can be saved if these items will be bought through sales. During these sales, these necessary items can be obtained in lower prices than should have been paid by them. The prices of the items usually increase in the occurrence of calamities.

The persons are recommended to have foods which are not perishable packed so that spoilage could not affect them and they could still be eaten. Foods which can be consumed for three to seven days, approximately, should be brought. However, those which are enriched with vitamins and minerals should also be brought. This way, their strengths can be preserved as their energies will be drained during these events.

He should also be bringing enough water with him. A person should have one gallon per day. However, if he needs to extend his stay in his temporary shelter, he should be sterilizing it, instead. For this, he should be aware of the steps on how to do it and what materials he needs so that he will be applying his knowledge when a real situation arise.
