Over And Procedures For Cosmetic Dentistry

By Dominique Martin

It is common knowledge for people to associate dentists as professionals who do extraction for teeth, filling, cleaning, or for getting braces. But this is not the only practice and procedures they are doing. The study has evolved to cater a more wide variety of needs and services that patients would want for their oral cavity for whichever reason they have either for better aesthetics or for functionality.

A lot of procedures are now available to choose from. Options for cosmetic dentistry Andover can be now achieved through various needs depending on the individual or patient. Whichever they deem to be done, whether lightening, filling, reshaping, bridges, veneers, etc.

Although this kind of dentistry is not official and duly recognized in the American Dental Association, still a lot of dentists have claimed themselves to be for cosmetic. This is regarded as unethical and the only reason for this is for marketing purposes towards their patients. Only the specialty for Prosthodontics and Orthodontics are official focus in this field.

In Prosthodontics, it is a focus for providing prosthesis to patients who have missing or deficient set of teeth. This would be able to help the patients who are suffering congenital defects. The defects would either be because of surgery, trauma, cancer, or any various defects since birth.

On the other hand, Orthodontics or Dentofacial Orthopedics, is actually the primary specialty for dentists. However, specialists or Orthodontists have this as their main focus and limit, while general dentistry can perform Orthodontia along with other services as well. They do procedures on malocclusions or improper bites which is a result of irregularity of the teeth or jaws. They deal solely on displacement, modification, and control of the cranial growth.

These procedures have their value solely on cosmetic or aesthetics rather than on the functionality. Whitening is the most common cosmetic procedure that enhances how they look. This is also because there are already various products in the market that are available for anyone but it is better to have it done with a professional to make sure of the safety and also the quality.

Bonding and Veneers may be a bit the same due to them being procedures for adding enamel like structures on the crowns. Veneers are used to sculpt the crown to close gaps or reform chipped edges. Although this material does not react with whitening but they are ultra thin and made of customized porcelain material.

Dental bridges are false teeth that are attached in between real ones or other false ones as well to fill in gaps that are missing. It is a fixed dental restoration and these types may vary depending on the procedure and methods. Examples for this is either an indirect restoration or an implant.

Gum lifting is the process of having the gum line to be reshaped in order to make it more symmetrical and aligned with the row of teeth. This would give out a more aesthetic look. The underlying bones may as well be modified, too, to be able to shape the gumline properly. As any other medical practices, it is best to check the credentials and accreditations of the specialist and their clinic, hospital, or their institute before having them do the procedures.
