Valuable Communication Skills For Couples

By Jeannie Chapman

Love within a relationship blossoms if the partners are ready to embrace important communication skills for couples. The skills are applicable to persons beginning their relationship journey and those who have been in one for years. Worth appreciating is the fact that men and women handle issues in a different way. The approach should therefore depend on the person affected.

Communicating at the right time yields better fruits and leads to more understanding between partners. One should judge the mood and the environment before engaging in any conversation. Such a move ensures that each issue is given the attention it deserves so that a fair chance is available for the respondent to give an appropriate answer. One partner will not feel ignored because little attention is given on the subject.

An issue may be approached wrongly in such a way that its importance is eroded. Careful choice of words determines the kind of response that you receive. Use of a harsh tone and careless choice of words do not yield much for the couple. Blame games in relationships only lead to distortion of facts and pushes the other person in such a way that he cannot tell the whole truth.

Understanding in relationships requires open communication. Actions and decisions may be misinterpreted because one partner was not open. Conflicts are bound to arise if one person finds out that all details were not given or they were delayed on purpose. An issue that affects partners in a relationship should be communicated both ways. Suspicion results when there are secrets between partners.

Non-verbal communication plays a crucial part in determining the success of a relationship. A partner may not be interested in discussing a particular topic at an appointed time. You can detect this by evaluating the answers given to know if they are long enough or detailed. The timing should be right to ensure that each question is given necessary attention. A flowing conversation yields better results for a relationship as opposed to a situation where an individual is forcing answers from the partner.

Communicating honestly to your partner opens up the channels to hear and say more. The intentions must be clear with necessary details being given and the truth told. Honesty builds trust such that the other person will believe whatever you say. Concealing or misrepresenting facts reduces the chances of the person asking the same question again.

Relationships are easily wrecked by rumors and gossips because they are never substantiated. The information used to address issues and conflicts with partners should be reliable and verifiable. Some of the information given should be ignored because it does not help the relationship. One should evaluate the intentions of the person passing the information. Conflicts arising from such information lead to mistrust.

Specific communication skills for couples guarantee a trouble free relationship. The bond between the partners grows stronger and trust can be enjoyed for a long period of time. Timing plays a crucial part in any relationship. It ensures that proper attention is given to all subjects for the avoidance of unnecessary friction and conflict.
