High Blood Pressure Is Not Something To Be Taken Lightly. But Neither Should Lack Of Knowledge.

By Adelbert Botfield

It is in fact a potentially life threatening illness. When a doctor checks your blood pressure if the systolic reading is 160 or greater and the diastolic reading is 100 or more this is classed as stage 2 hypertension. When this is diagnosed high blood pressure medication must be prescribed to bring readings down. In many cases 2 or more types of medication may be required to achieve a sufficient reduction in readings.

The first of the high blood pressure medications to be prescribed is usually a diuretic drug which aids the body in expelling any additional fluid and sodium which the the component part of salt most associated with raised blood pressure.

Medication in most cases will not cure high blood pressure it will just regulate it. Most people become dependent on these drugs for the rest of their lives. That doesn't mean that you can't revert this process. On the contrary there are alternative treatments you can choose to treat hypertension without the need to rely solely on medication.

Below is a detailed list high blood pressure medication side effects and commonly used drugs: Vasodilators: this BP medication causes the blood vessels to open by relaxing the muscle in the vessel walls. Common side effects of this medication include: dizziness, hot flushes, headaches, nausea, excess hair growth, chest pains, fluid retention and heart palpitations. Diuretics: A very popular drug used for removing fluid and excess salt from the body in order allow the blood to flow easier. Common side effects associated with this type medication includes: dizziness, frequent urination, breast enlargement in men, an increase in the levels of sugar in the blood, an increased rate of cholesterol, gets rid of important nutrients such as potassium, irregular heartbeat, erectile dysfunction and menstruation irregularities.

Failing to do this will lessen the effect of the diuretic and will result in a need for a second, more powerful drug. When you start getting into these drugs you start risking some nasty side effects and your meds will suddenly have an impact on your quality of life. Here is a partial list that might be added to the diuretic:

Angiotensin Receptor Blockers - As the name suggests this medication prevents the hormone angiotensin from having any affect on the blood vessels and allowing them to expand.

Very high blood pressure readings as with those seen in patients with stage 2 high blood pressure must be treated immediately with fast acting medication in order that readings be lowered thus reducing the risk of unpleasant complications. As stated previously the most effective way to achieve this is often with a combination of drugs.

Treatment will often be more intense and of greater urgency if the patient has other related conditions for example previous history of a previous heart attack or stroke, heart failure or perhaps kidney disease and there are others. This is because the risk of developing any of these life threatening complications and any of these conditions is greatly increased by increased blood pressure levels.

If you are currently on any of these drugs do not stop them but if you want to naturally and safely lower BP without dangerous side effects talk to your doctor about your intention to treat it naturally.

So what are your options for treating it naturally: Weight Management is the number one way to treat high BP naturally. Losing a mere 10 pounds can help lower your blood pressure, start with losing a pound a week. It's very easy to do and the results are very rewarding.
