Basque Flag History

By Jeremy Lawrence

Spanning the French and Spanish border, the Basque Country is home to about three million people, most of whom live on the Spanish side. Historically, since the ousting of Islamic rule in the 15th century, the area has been strongly Latin-rite Catholic, peppered with a few Occitan pilgrim settlers on their way to and from Santiago de Compostela. The area was relatively autonomous until the realignment of power following the French Revolution (1789â€"1799) and the Carlist Wars (1833-1876). The struggle has continued since then to regain independence. Ikurriña just means 'flag' in the Basque language - people there tend to use the Spanish bandera when talking about flags of other nations.

The ikurrina was originally created only for Bizkaia (the main region of Euskadi), but it became very popular and the rest of the Basque regions (4 regions in Spain and 3 in France) accepted it as the flag for all of Euskadi. In the beginning, only the Basque Nationalist Party (founded by Sabino Arana on July 31st, 1895) used it, but during the 2nd Spanish Republic (1931-1939) all of the democratic parties accepted it. In 1936, the Basque Autonomous Government was created (it's Lehendakari (president) was Jose Antonio Agirre) with the representation of all the democratic parties, and the ikurrina was declared, by law, the Basque flag.

After the Spanish war, the dictatorship declared the ikurrina illegal, and it was completely forbidden and declared as a separatist symbol. During the 2nd World War, there was a Basque brigade in the French free army, and the ikurrina of the brigade was decorated ( because of the battle of Point de Grave, near Bordeaux). After the last Spanish dictatorship, and with the approval of the Basque autonomy, the ikurrina was declared again by law as the official Basque flag.

In the Basque-French nation, it has dependably been permitted and after World War II it was formally used as a part of the town lobbies together with the French banner. Generally, the banner of Bizkaia was red. At the point when Sabino Arana made the ikurrina, he needed to give it the significance Bizkaia, autonomy, and God, so the red shade of the field means Bizkaia or Euskadi, the green St. Andrew's cross stands for the freedom, of the Basque Country. It is green since it likewise symbolizes the oak tree of Gernika, the image of Basque flexibility. The white cross is for God.

In the Middles Ages, there was a fight between the Basques and the Spaniards in a spot called Padura. This fight was on St. Andrew's day. The stones of the spot were recolored with blood and since that day, that place has been called Arrigorriaga.

It is not clear if this battle is historical or legendary, but the St. Andrew's cross has often been used in Basque flags, like those of the Consulate of Bilbao, The Naval flag of Biscay, and in some Carlists flags during the Carlists wars (1836-1876). People In All Age Groups Discover Better Health By Taking Vitamin D3 With K2 Supplements

By Derick Scartel

Research indicates that a vitamin D deficiency is damaging to your health. There are two factors that are alarming, especially in the elderly population. That lack can lead to two bone conditions, osteoporosis and osteomalacia. Consider the fact that a Vitamin D3 Supplement can help avoid them.

Type 1 diabetes, breast cancer and other cancers are less likely to occur in those taking the supplemental D. A great many people take high blood pressure medication. Researchers now suggest that the nutrient D may reduce that number.

Added to those findings are the possibility that it might reduce the incidence of a heart attack. Multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis may also be less likely to occur. Those who are exposed to sunlight regularly increase the level of D in their bodies. Hypertension may be reduced as reported after a study done at one major university.

Other research studies indicate that a specific intake of the nutriment K2 in combination with that in D3 promotes strong bones and heart. There is a synergistic relationship between K2 and D3. Researchers are finding that K is an essential component that utilizes calcium within the body.

This process can be scientifically explained. But, simply stated, vitamin K decreases the incidence of bone damage due to osteoclasts, a kind of cell that damages the bone matrix. The combination of the nutrients K and D act together to protect the bones

When mixed into a beverage, the liquid form of D3 and K2 cannot be detected. Therefore they do not ruin the taste of the drink. If you take D orally, it may provide no benefit unless you take K2 orally as well. When taken alone there may be a connection to hardening of the arteries in the neck.

This is understandable since the nutriment D helps to absorb calcium. Calcium makes strong bones and the supplement K2 works to direct the calcium to the skeleton. When calcium is prevented from being deposited in the arteries due to K2, it prevents or slows hardening of the arteries. That is an advantage to your health.

Belize Flag History And The Flag Company Inc

By Bob Gras

The first settlers in Belize were English Puritans, setting up trading posts along the coast of Belize. Various bands of ship-wrecked sailors, buccaneers, and pirates established permanent bases in Belize, harassing the Spanish galleons carrying gold, silver, and hardwoods from Central America to Europe. It wasn't long before logging became the dominant occupation.

Belize became independent on Sept. 21, 1981. But Guatemala, which had made claims on the territory since the 1800s, refused to recognize it. British troops remained in the country to defend it. Although the dispute between Guatemala and Great Britain remained unresolved, Guatemala recognized Belize's sovereignty in Sept. 1991. Guatemala, however, still claims more than half of Belize’s territory.

In the arrangements to get a sovereign country, the country's fathers decided to make some procedure to choose the nation's banner and national images. All images were chosen by the two noteworthy political gatherings the Peoples United Party and the United Democratic Party.

The red, white and blue Belize Flag is an image of the solidarity of the country. Before Independence, the People's United Party proposed a blue banner with the Coat of Arms in a white circle. Due to the close relationship of the banner with this party, public opinions were divided regarding the flag.

The United Democratic Party did not propose a banner but rather required a banner that could rally all natives, paying little mind to their political alliance. As an outcome, the bi-factional National Symbols Committee welcomed residents to submit outlines for a National Flag.

The design selected by the Committee is a royal blue flag with one horizontal red stripe at the top, one at the bottom, and a white circle with the Coat of Arms in the centre. The History Of Bangladesh Flag For The Future

By Rod Blunt

For much of history, the state that we today call Bangladesh has been a part of a greater India and was known only as Bengal; what happened elsewhere on the subcontinent affected Bengal. The history of the modern state of Bangladesh has been short and, rarely, sweet. Born in a war that some call genocide, the nation’s history has been filled with an almost unnaturally large guest list of villains, tyrants, soldiers and politicians, as well as one or two ever so rare heroes.

Prior to the creation of Bangladesh, the history of Bengal was one that seemed to involve the constant meddling of foreign powers â€" sometimes this resulted in the glow of cultural splendour, but more often than not it descended into the tears of war. The national banner of Bangladesh was received on 17 January 1972. It looks like the banner used amid the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. The map was later erased from the banner by the request of General Abul Manzur, destined to rearrange the design citation required.

The green field stands for the lushness of the land of Bangladesh. The red disc is a socialist symbol of the rising Sun of independence after the dark night of a blood-drenched struggle against Pakistan.

The first banner was composed by painter Quamrul Hassan. On 2 March 1971, the starting adaptation of the banner was lifted in Bangladesh surprisingly at the Dhaka University. On the revelation of Independence on 26 March 1971, Sheik Mujibur Rahman flew the banner in his residence.

The banner was imagined to prohibit the crescent and the star considered as images of West Pakistan. It was thought that the green used as a part of the banner does not reflect the customary colours of Islam, as opposed to some western sources.

Rather, the green colour was chosen to represent the lushness of the natural landscape of Bangladesh. The current flag resembles the flag of Japan with the background a different colour. The map was removed from the flag in 1972. One reason given was the difficulty rendering the map correctly on both sides of the flag. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flag designs offered a special edition of decals and flags to memorize for the future.
