Discovering Active Shooter Response Training PA

By Jose Martin

Most often people think of robberies, gangs and murders when thinking of shootings. In some areas, this is often the case. Although, there have been far more mass and school shootings over the last several decades in different cities and states in the United States. As such, there is now an active shooter response training PA which can help individuals know the best way to react if and when involved in such an incident.

In most cases, there are various options with regards to the best steps to take to assure safety during these situations. While there has been some discussion with regards to putting guns in the classroom or installing metal detectors, these are only deterrents and do not guarantee that such an incident will not occur. As such, one lesson individuals learn while attending this training is that when in doubt as to whether or not there is a threat, get out.

Generally, an active shooting involves more than one person whether that be the shooter and victims, or authorities and the shooter. While, there have been some of these incidents prevented by those whom had knowledge that such incidents were being planned, it is rare. For, most active shooters are shooting at random whether as an act of terror or revenge.

Shootings at, in or near schools have been more prevalent over the last few decades. While this is the case, violence in schools is not a new phenomenon. In fact, there were most likely a number of school shootings prior to Columbine. For, new media such as cable and satellite news, online news podcasts and social networking have contributed to alerting people to news stories like never before in history.

The first act of violence regarding a school actually occurred 1764, near Greencastle, PA when the Lanape Native American tribe shot 9 or 10 students and an administrator though reports on the number of students killed varies in different reports. What is known, is that only 3 children survived the incident.

Reports show that there were twenty four reported school shootings in 2014. It was a difficult year for students at all levels. For, those committing these crimes had no discrimination to age or grade level. Something that was well proved by the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting and those in other elementary, middle and high schools.

These incidents regardless of location can last for minutes, hours or in some cases, days. Also, while some shootings are spread across a great distance, others are more localized. As such, when encountering such emergencies, it is important to evacuate the area as quickly as possible or find a room with a locked door, lock the door, hide under tables and chairs and remain inside until the incident comes to an end.

Whether happening in the public sector such as at a movie theater, at a school or business, these training sessions offer information which is essential in assisting individuals incurring such situations. For, whether in direct contract or within close proximity of the shooter, knowing what to do and when can often be essential when it comes to staying alive and helping others until first responders arrive.
