Ways Of Establishing If AA Is A Cult

By Harold Campbell

Quitting alcohol on your own can be challenging and you need professional help in order to fully reform. Choosing the right people to walk with you is very crucial and it determines. Being comfortable with professionals helps you achieve your dream faster. To avoid enrolling in an institution whose beliefs you are not comfortable with, use the following information to know if AA is a cult.

The first thing that should make you raise an eyebrow is the manner in which the recruitment of the members is done. Since the organization is believed to want to help members of a society quit alcohol, then no willing member should be barred from attending the meetings regardless of their gender, culture, and denomination. If there is discrimination, find out the requirements set aside and their impact on the institution.

It is good to understand the approach used in this center to transform the members. Some centers will use scientific methods like therapy accompanied by drugs, depending on the condition of the members. Others will use a psychological method of making the patient believes that he is a failure unless he changes. Others will forcefully prevent the victim from taking alcohol and this may have other negative effects on him.

The wealth of the organization and how it is accumulated will also help you know who you are dealing with. An organization that wants to control your finances can lead to your bankruptcy as they will be taking everything you earn and leave you straining financially. If there are any fees included, the amount should be a reasonable one.

Research on what is taught in the meetings. Before enrolling, ask to see the program and find out what topics will be covered. The topics should focus on the transition process. Some organizations will instill new beliefs to the members and even want to convert them. The teachings can affect the social life of all the members especially if they condemn interaction with others that criticize the entity.

The leadership of the institution is another thing to look at. Good leadership is based on democracy and this means that there is a criterion that has to be followed when the leaders are being chosen. In most cases, there is a constitution that indicates the appointment of leaders and their role. If the entity is run by dictators, then this could be a sign that the members have been brainwashed.

It is also good to know what happens when you quit your enrollment. No one should be given conditions when they want to stop attending the meetings. It is however common for people with certain faiths to prevent members from deviating or leaving the group. This causes many people to stay even when they are not comfortable due to the threats they receive.

The experience of people that have been to these meetings and quit later on is vital when making a decision. There are many reasons as to why one may lose interest in the sessions even if they have not fully recovered from their addiction. By interacting with these people, you will get a lot of information that members may be afraid to share.
