The Teachings Of The Olive Grove Baptist Church

By Maria Mitchell

There are about 60 Christian denominations and over 40,000 churches in the United States of America. There are over 30 million churches in the world. Christianity is the world's largest religion with around two billion followers. That means that two out of every seven human beings is a Christian. Therefore, it is accurate to conclude that the world is Christian. At the heart of Christianity, there is the institution of the church. The word church can mean the building that houses believers. Most importantly, it means the spiritual congregation of Christians. The Olive Grove Baptist Church is not only physical. This church is also spiritual.

It is accurate to conclude that America is a Christian nation. It is ranked among the countries in the world that have the highest number of Christians. Other nations on that list are Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, and the Philippines. A good percentage of American Christians are Baptists. Some of the founding fathers of America were also Baptists. America was formed on a strong Christian foundation.

The number one teaching of the Baptist Church is the teaching of morality. As a matter of fact, morality exalts a nation. However, sin is a reproach to any society. Moral living has earthly and eternal rewards. Immoral living has earthly consequences and an eternal punishment in the scorching fires of hell. Actually, hell is real. It is not fiction.

A Christian is required to live a moral life. That means living according to the Ten Commandments that were handed down to Moses on Mount Sinai. The greatest commandment is the commandment of love. One should love his neighbor as he loves himself. Love is a great virtue. He who does not have love is simply an empty cymbal that is worth nothing.

American churches have tried their level best to teach their congregations about the wages of sin. Of course, sin will result in eternal death while righteousness in eternal life. A Christian who has eyes to see and ears to hear will internalize this message and live according to it. It is always good to be aware of the consequences of sinning.

As much as the dangers of sins are preached, the teaching of baptism is also preached. The best pastors always teach their followers that all sins are forgivable. It is expected for humans to sin because of their fragile and imperfect nature. That is the reason why there is a path out of sin and it involves the baptism process.

It is important to remember that this is the age of grace. In this age, there is grace for even a sinner who has committed the vilest sins. Such a sinner can be baptized and he will be forgiven of all sins and no account of sin will be held against him. However, the window of grace is quickly closing.

There is one characteristic that is obvious in any true Baptist Church. It is the fact that it is a Bible based church. As a matter of fact, churches that are not Bible based need to be shunned. Such churches normally mislead people. The Bible should be left, right, front, backwards, and center, of any Christian congregation. It should be the compass of believers and the light of their feet.
