By Running Troubled Youth Programs Indianapolis Organizations Try To Rescue Society

By Robert Parker

In days gone by communities looked after each other and nobody was left out in the cold. In this modern world, however, it is much different. People do not care for others and they focus on nothing but their own needs and wants. Young people, especially, are vulnerable to bad influences. Many of them have no income other than what they can beg on the streets and many others have no skills to find any employment at all. Without troubled youth programs Indianapolis youngsters will not stand a chance.

Social experts all agree that the very core of a healthy society consist of loving and supporting families. The unfortunate truth is that there are numerous dysfunctional families. Parents simply do not spend time with their children any longer and many parents are themselves struggling to cope with the pressures of modern life. Organizations trying to help young people therefore try their best to create an environment where they will feel wanted and protected.

Young people are under tremendous pressure. Jobs are scarce and many of them lack the skills necessary to find and hold a job. Many organizations therefore focus on equipping these youngsters with skills that will help them find employment. Some of them are even in partnership with some employers that are willing to give a youngster a chance or to help with training them.

When young people lack the support and safety of a family environment, they often start to develop behavioural problems. Many of them feel worthless and they turn to drugs and alcohol and, eventually, to crime. So many of them end up living in the streets. That is why many helping hand organizations offer ongoing counselling that can help these young people to deal with their lives and to find something worth living for.

A number of organizations are also involved in rehabilitating young people that have become addicted to drugs, alcohol and other addictive substances. They believe that counselling and training will only be effective once the young person no longer abuse any substances. Rehabilitation can be lengthy, however, and require a lot of resources. Unfortunately, the failure rate is rather high.

A few churches, charities and even official social welfare departments have realized that one of the prime reasons why young people revert back to drugs, fail to hold their jobs and stop attending counselling sessions is that they have no place to stay. These organizations provide shelters for these youngsters and they make sure that they have at least one balanced meal every day.

Sadly, organizations doing their best to help often battle to do so because they simply do not have enough resources. Even government departments concerned with social development have extremely limited resources and they simply cannot meet the enormous need for help. This lack of resources means that fewer needy youngsters can be helped. Society as a whole should become involved and accept responsibility.

If the future is in the hands of the youth then many nations are facing an uncertain future. The number of homeless and hopeless young people, even in affluent developed countries are rising at a very alarming rate. Action from all concerned is certainly very necessary.
