How Mediums Help The Living

By Shirley Scott

Humans have always been keen on attempts to contact the deceased. One practice that reportedly links the worlds of the living and the dead is called mediumship. A San Diego medium possesses the psychic abilities that allow them to see and communicate with the dead.

In certain cultures, families reunite for specific times in the year to celebrate death anniversaries of loved ones. There are tons of preparations preceding these celebrations. Some cook massive feasts while others hold novenas or prayer vigils days or weeks before the anniversary. These celebrations are done in the spirit of hope and faith.

Our close relationships with the dead highlight how much we value those who have gone before us. This is primarily because of our beliefs in the afterlife or other concepts of a similar nature. Since most of the human population has its roots deeply grounded in religious beliefs, even now, many of us believe that there is a place we all go to after death.

The afterlife is commonly interpreted differently in beliefs around the world. However, the central idea of an afterlife remains to be quite universal. Believers trust in the psychic abilities of mediums as they try to establish a line of communication with the spirits. Since no scientific or concrete can back up whatever takes place in a single session, these practices are considered highly controversial.

Skeptics tend to point out that most of what takes place in a session is built around observational and circumstantial evidence. Still, others insist that a session has been successful and they were able to establish communication with the dead. The only thing that can be agreed upon is the fact that all this controversy only proves how much our traditions are deeply rooted in our religious backgrounds.

While psychics rely on their sense of intuition when making readings for a person, mediums use the same intuitive abilities but take it a step further. They reportedly harness this energy and tune it into the spirits surrounding the person being read in order to deliver messages from the dead to the living. Because none of these practices are grounded on facts, there is no right or wrong way of choosing a medium.

Those who are interested will just have to rely on their intuition and determine whether or not that medium can deliver what they want. They still have to be extremely cautious since faking psychic abilities are obviously not that difficult because rarely anyone looks for concrete physical evidence. Psychic frauds commonly take advantage of the Forer Effect. In order to achieve this effect, they first manage to get their clients to spill some personal information with conversational tactics.

After getting the information, frauds then build claims around these that are applicable to almost anyone. With enough experience, they can make clients trust every word they are saying by spinning it around personal tragedies that happen to almost everyone. Physical clues such as wedding rings or subtle nods here and there also help psychics indicate events in the lives of their clients that are most personal to them.

You would be surprised that it actually takes some serious observation skills and a lot of practice to learn the tricks of the trade even for frauds. To a certain extent, what they are saying could be partially true because they have learned how to closely examine people for over a long time. However, there is still nothing to be ashamed of in being faithful believers of mediumship. For some people who have grieved over tragic deaths in their life, this has helped them cope in one way or another and if that helps someone get over a loss, then it might actually be doing something good for another living soul.
