How To Manage Ventura County Group Counseling In Your Daily Life

By Sandra Ross

Working together in groups can be very effective. When you are going through a tough time in your life, you will discover that support is essential. It can come in the form of one on one counselling, having a consultation with a psychiatrist or engaging in creative therapy. However, when you are feeling depressed or anxious, you will find that Ventura County group counseling can be very helpful, especially for those folk who don't have family members to support them.

It can be different for everyone. Some people will get more out of the process than others. There are people who are more introverted and take time to settle into the group, learning to trust the members. It can depend what people have been through in life. You may have been through something more traumatic and it can take more time to learn to trust other people.

For someone who is suffering in this way, they will find that it can be extremely uncomfortable sharing in a situation like this. However, over time, they will realize that they are in the same boat. They will have compassion for their fellow members in the group and this will help them to relax and start to share their own issues in life.

On the other hand, it can be a good idea for someone like this to combine group therapy with one on one counselling because they may want to report back to the therapist privately. Slowly, they will be able to depend less on the counsellor. There may be deeper issues which they will want to discuss. This is sometimes something that is more confidential.

It has been proven that the non-verbal approach of therapy is just as effective to that of something like talk therapy. A lot of people get so much out of drawing and painting. Some folk enjoy listening to music or playing a musical instrument. Once the session comes to a close, the individual will feel refreshed and ready to take the next step.

Group therapy is a lot less expensive. For some people, it is a way of getting their feet wet before attempting individual counselling. It can be something to try out. However, you also have to realize that you need to put in the effort in order to be able to move on with your life. It can take courage to be vulnerable, but this also takes time.

Many people will turn to a friend or a family member when they are feeling depressed or anxious about something in their life. They may even talk to their best friend about issues in their marriage which they are having. However, it is something that one has to think about because there are boundaries that you have with friends. You may also not be completely sure with your level of confidentiality.

It is a type of informal support which can be taken further once the sessions come to an end. It is also well organized, depending of course on the group and the topic. Sometimes people will talk about what they are feeling. Other times they will be more practical. Role play may be included here.
