Save Money With Quick Meal Recipes

By Dorothy Scott

Today, few working adults have money or time to waste. However, when people choose eating out over cooking at home, they are often throwing money away. In many cases, this is not intentional, as some may not realize that quick meal recipes not only save but are healthier to eat on a daily basis.

It is common for people to say there is no time or energy after a long day at the job. Yes, it takes time to drive to the supermarket and navigate through the crowds, then go home to perform the tasks of preparing ingredients. Add in the cooking and eating process only to realize it is time to go to bed, this is not a realistic solution for those with limited time.

Cooking at home does not have to be a chore but can take less time than eating out and more nutritious. Instead of making special requests with the chef, a person who takes charge in their own kitchen and save themselves the hassle. People looking to trim down will find that homemade meals are better than skipping meals or other drastic changes.

Popular dishes like pizza can be made a number of ways that are not only faster than delivery but cut excess calories. Wheat flatbread may be substituted for a traditional white flour crust. Pizzas are good without cheese or contain extra vegetables or flavors that have high nutritional value, like garlic. Turkey or vegetarian alternatives are better choices than processed meats made with pork.

Leftovers can be used for lunch, as a second pizza or added to another entree. Ideas include adding to a favorite sauce or soup that can top pasta or potatoes for sustenance. If there are no immediate ideas, just store or freeze ingredients. Whatever the use, it will take less time to reheat than waiting to place a food order.

Making this a habit easier for some than others who do not cook. Someone that routinely eats out may not know how to prepare themselves or even how to cook basic dishes. This type of person may need to invest in cooking classes or tutorials but over time, they will be able to plan sensible meals.

People who would do the cooking may have concerns, such as having too much food around that may go bad. The best approach is to have a storage system in place. Items that are not going to be eaten in a day or two should be placed in the freezer for a few weeks. This includes ingredients that can be added to an entree, as it will save on preparation time when it comes time to cook.

It also helps to keep dry staples like beans, potatoes, and pasta near because these are real time savers. These can be combined with seasoned entrees that only require heating or are already chopped. Many stores also sell dry herb blends and seasonings that are measured for most traditional recipes. When a person puts their mind to it, they can come up with many wonderful creations not found at any restaurant.
