Supplements For Pain Relief In Horses Suffering From Arthritis

By Margaret Gibson

In the ancient times, finding a horse that has lived for a long time was not easy. Today, however, this has been made possible by giving the proper horse nutrition and appropriate management. These animals were mostly affected as they grew old and the effects of all the activities they did start affecting their bones and joints. This condition referred to as arthritis has no cure, but can, however, be contained, by using supplements for pain relief in horses.

The arthritis is degeneration to the particular surfaces of the joints, and this might cause inflammation. Though it can attack a horse at any age, in most cases, it is found in older horses. The inflammation that is caused leads to the erosion of structures of the joints. Older horses might lose some of the elasticity in their tendon and ligaments, and as they age, they might have fibrous tissues and this lead to thinning of the joint cartilage.

Arthritis is best under control like many other incurable diseases when it is discovered at an early stage. One of the ways of keeping it under control is by preventing the inflammation of the joints. To be able to detect the condition at an early stage, then it is important to be able to identify some related symptoms that give an early warning. When you see the signs, then you need t start the treatment immediately to keep the animal healthy.

One of the things that might alert you of the illness is the subtle change in the manner that the horse moves like having strides that are short, a hollowing back, or even raising of the head as they walk. These are signs that the animal is in pain and thus, you need to have it examined so that you can determine what might be causing the ache.

When you find that the horse does not want to do some of the activities that it used to enjoy, then this is a sign that there is something wrong with it. One major problem that could cause this is if the horse is in pain. For this reason, call in a vet to examine the horse and establish if the grounds of this are arthritis.

You may also notice that the joints are puffy when the animal has not received proper medication. The lack of medication causes the body to begin its internal regulation of the body system to manage the pain. The self-management of the pain is the one that causes the swelling of the joints. Swollen joints should worry you and call for attention soonest possible.

Another sign that indicates that your horse may require medical attention is when you realize that it is resistant to frequent movement. By feeling the joints, you will be able to determine that the horse is in pain or not. You may also notice that the joints are warmer than the rest of his body indicating that the pony needs treatment.

As you enjoy the company of the horses into the old stage, it is essential that you address the issues that cause aging in the right manner. Pay close attention to your pet so that you can easily dictate as soon as it starts developing some complications.
