For more than 200 years, the American flag has been the symbol of our nation's unity, as well as a source of pride and inspiration for millions of citizens.
The United States Air Force has a long and rich history. Though the actual beginning of the United States Air Force was not until September 18, 1947, their inception began long before this date. The roots for the US Air Force can be traced back to the early part of the 20th Century. Their story begins in August of 1907, three and a half years after the Wright BrotherĂ¢s initial flight when the US Army Signal Corps started an Aeronautical Division. Balloons and warships remained the initial focus of this newly organized division.
In May of 1918, President Woodrow Wilson started the Army Air Service and placed it under the command of the War Department. By November 1918 when the WWI armistice was signed, the US Army Air Service experienced a dramatic increase in their enlisted, officers and aircraft. After the war, however, much of it was disbanded.
Like the other military flags, the Air Force flag symbolizes a prestigious history of dedication to this country. This dark blue flag consists of the Air Force coat of arms in the middle, surrounded by 13 white stars that represent the 13 original colonies. The three stars grouping at the very top is meant to portray the three departments - Army, Navy, and Air Force.
At the highest point of the seal is a bald eagle before a cloud development. A wreath is additionally a part of the symbol and is made out of six folds of silver and blue. Like the other military banners, the indoor adaptation is delineated with gold fringe, while the outside one is not. On March 26th, 1951, President Harry S. Truman pronounced this banner the official Air Force Flag.
Specifically, beneath the Air Force seal are the words, "United States Air Force," and the Roman numeral for 1947, which is the year the Air Force was built up. It was July 28th, 1947 that the National Security Act got to be law and made the Department known as the Air Force. Under the demonstration, W. Stuart Symington turned into the first Secretary of the Air Force and Gen. Carl A. Spaatz turned into the first Chief of Staff. For the special events, the Flag Company Inc invented beautiful decals and flags for the history support.
