How Can I Understand My Spiritual Life Journey

By Kristen Baird

Physical and spiritual lives are comparable to a large extent. Their similarity lies in the desire to make every bit better and more fulfilling. When you have gone astray, changing the path of your destiny is as challenging as going to the gym to keep fit or changing your lifestyle by quitting smoking, among other traits. How then do I take control of my spiritual life journey?

A lot of struggle goes into becoming a deeper and more meaningful person. External changes appear easier to make considering that there are physical beacons to support your endeavor. By taking pills, registering in a gym, keeping off some people and avoiding some areas, you have already achieved a lot. Life in the spirit is a bit different because it does not have a tangible part.

The choice to alter the direction of your life will bring you to your desired destiny. This change can only be manifested in behavior since it is a matter of the spirit. When the desire to change exists and a decision has been made, then your inner person begins to yearn for an authentic, pure and deeper meaning. This is the way to take charge of your journey.

Every individual has an inner voice that directs actions and thoughts. It is this voice that instructs you on what to avoid and what to do. Persons who have found their purpose in life attribute it to listening to this inner voice. It directs your thoughts which translate into actions. Failure to heed to the dictates of this voice leads to internal conflict.

The authentic self is revealed when you are in touch with your inner self. The best way to reconnect with your inner and authentic self is through discernment. According to experts, spending time alone allows you to evaluate your life and identify areas that require attention. This is the way to correct waywardness of the spirit and avoid internal conflict.

Discernment offers a chance to answer several fundamental questions. Among them is, What if I am Kinder? More compassionate? More patient? Less selfish? More loving? More humble? More generous? Etc. When you have found an answer to these questions, then, your heart is ready for change.

Expert are still struggling to understand if change can be achieved though exclusive individual effort. They are of the opinion that external intervention is necessary. An example is a house whose renovation requires new furniture and installations. The external force required is your religious commitment. It will offer direction to your life.

Every human being has a spiritual aspect that determines values, morality and attitudes. Neglecting this aspect makes your heart to wear out and deviate from the desired path. For restoration to take place, a spirit driven process needs to take place. The bible commands every Christian to work towards resembling Christ. This is a daily struggle that requires commitment.

The irony of change is that you cannot complete it on your own and neither can it happen without your active participation. The first step is to desire and make a decision to change. When this happens, you gain clarity of purpose and your destiny can be achieved. Restoration begins to happen.
