The good news is that this is not a dangerous condition and that it does not cause serious harm. Older people can develop fallen arches in time if their tendons weaken. It is obese people, however, that is in the greatest danger of developing fallen arches.

It is important to look after the feet. Podiatrists will confirm that the majority of patients experience pain and discomfort simply because they do not wear shoes that fit them properly. Sportsmen should wear the shoes specifically designed for the sport that they play. All shoes should provide support to the entire foot and the ankle. Maintaining a healthy weight can also help to avoid fallen arches and other foot conditions.

Insoles can do much to help relieve the symptoms of fallen arches. Those with normal arches can also benefit, however. These insoles provide support exactly where it is needed. It is recommended that insoles are bought only from reputable manufacturers that specialize in foot orthotics.
