Swallowing a pill seems an easy task. Surprisingly, it is an issue that many people have a difficult with. This includes both adults and children. This is as a result of fear of gagging. It causes the throat to tighten in such away the pill will stay inside the mouth until one spits it out. The good thing is that there are approaches that can help one to know how to swallow pills. These guidelines will help a person to relax and get rid of the fear of choking.

One can use food in swallowing the pill. However, this applies when is prescribed to take medication after eating. If the instructions are to take the pills on an empty stomach, one should choose an alternative method. In this method, a person can use his or her favorite food. One chews the food and place the pills in the mouth when food is still inside the mouth.

The instructions from the doctor are supposed to be followed to the letter. Consideration should be made before you choose the type of food. Do not use such type of food if it will mess up with your medication or you are to take it on an empty tummy. You may also cut a small piece of bread and place the medicine inside. Put in your mouth and sip some water.

Use of honey or peanut butter. This is where one puts a pill in a spoon and covers it with honey or peanut butter. He or she swallows the whole lot and later uses water to wash down. One can also practice by swallowing a candy equal to the size of the medicine. After enough practice, one will be able to swallow it. A person can also eat just immediately after swallowing it to help it go down.

You can use liquids too. You will sip some water and swallow the pill together. This way, the pills is able move down your throat much faster and with a lot of ease. Take more water to wash the throat and also help the pill to move. You can also use a different drink as opposed to water. A juice can be one example of the drinks. You ought to have in mind the choice of the drink, and whether it will conflict with your medication.

Sometimes we prefer sipping a lot of water instead of just one sip. After this, we should place the medication and swallow with the imagination that it is not there. We can also salivate to assist to wet the mouths as a dry mouth can complicate the process.

A person can also ease the difficult in swallowing by relaxing him or herself. Finding a quiet place or simply listening to music can help on to ease the anxiety. This helps in soothing the nerves and in turn reducing the likelihood of gagging. Gagging is a natural response which is as a reaction of fear.

Lastly, taking a deep breath can be of great help. This will help one to relax. One should put the pill at the center as opposed to placing it on either of the sides. All this tips can be useful in helping someone with a problem in swallowing medicine.
