Cemeteries In NJ Offer Choices

By Marsha Klein

Cemeteries in NJ offer many choices to assist you during a difficult time. Decision making after losing a loved one can be a formidable task. This article will show you some of the many options available. Don't make uninformed decisions. Take your time, ask questions and base your responses on the information you have acquired.

Speak with family members to determine the wishes of the deceased. You will need to determine if burial or cremation is the best choice. Call several providers to gather information on plots, cremation and mausoleums. Request itemized price lists to educate yourself.

Burial plots are outside, usually in a garden type setting. Most often the plan you purchase will cover the upkeep of the grounds. Take your time considering the area you choose for the final disposition. Determine if your loved one would rather rest under a shade tree, out in the sun or near brightly flowered shrubs.

Cremation allows you the opportunity to bring the ashes of your loved one with you. Request a price list, with pictures of urns for the ashes to be placed. You may also request a price list if you wish to have the urn to be publicly displayed in a niche, designed for this purpose. Speak with family regarding placement of the urn.

If you choose above ground burial, request information on mausoleums. This option provides the final resting place to be displayed above ground in a public or private area. Once you have made this determination, you then need to decide whether the mausoleum should be indoor or outdoor. Some mortuaries allow for small mausoleums to be built outside on their property.

In New Jersey, embalming must take place after 48 hours have passed. Choosing not to embalm means that the burial decisions must be made in a very short amount of time. Speak with your undertaker to determine the most effective solutions. After 48 hours, the body must be embalmed, according to state laws.

Selecting markers, gravestones and monuments should be done with care and consideration. These markers will represent your remembrance of your loved one. Request an itemized price list, along with pictures to discuss these options with family.

Consider whether you wish for people to send flowers or if you prefer them to make donations to charitable organizations. If you are unsure, communicate with the director. He may be able to provide a list of specific charitable organizations in which people could send donations.

During this time of bereavement, you may feel overwhelmed. Thankfully, the cemeteries in NJ offer choices. Call several providers to request information. Communicate with the director. Convey your thoughts feelings and desires. Express to him what you are hoping to accomplish through this celebration of life for your dearly departed. Involve family members in the decision making process, while keeping in mind the wishes of your loved one.
