Long Distance Dates For Couples

By Sarah Lyons

There are numerous cool date night ideas for long distance couples, but listed below I've narrowed it down to a summary of the most popular.

Make sure that you're imaginative when preparing the date. Just give it a chance if it seems silly at first. It is quite different from being out in public together, but you will be having fun in no time.

What To Prepare

Internet access.

An internet call program. Skype will operate best for this since it's free.

A good quality headset and webcam. Almost all laptops come with these now, but just be sure you are prepared with this.

A few different free programs and applications.

The Ideal Long Distance Dates For Couples

The traditional dinner and a movie date still works even while you are away from each other. You could phone up a restaurant in your partners town or city and arrange for them to deliver food to their home. You could forward them a menu in the mail along with a fancy invite for the special occasion. This will make it engaging for the both of you. Then why not choose a movie from your free Netflix account (from The Long Distance Relationship Advice Group online) to watch with each other. Make sure you each have headphones as the speakers may be picked up on your headset or microphone.

You could watch YouTube together with SynchTube. Create a chat room where you are able to surf through video clips, generate a special playlist for your partner or look for "that weird part of YouTube." You could see music videos, documentaries or even just crazy cat videos.

You could play board games online with each other. You will find a ton of video gaming sites around to play on. We highly suggest staying away from shooting and action games (sorry gents), and pony riding games (sorry girls). Instead, you could certainly meet in the middle and enjoy the classic board games together. I favor scrabble, connect 4 or monopoly, but you can pick any that you wish. It might be enjoyable to make bets like "giving a back rub" to whoever wins the game.

The best date idea by a long shot is to read a book together. Choose a decent book which you think you'll like, this may be fiction or non-fiction, and settle next to each of your fireplaces. If you have a kindle, you may use that. You should aim to read at least 10 pages per date, leaving enough time to share your thoughts on whatever you've just read.
