Getting Through The MEPS Schedule

By Lora Jones

When you make the decision to join our nations military you have a process to undergo that is put in place to make sure that you and everyone else that goes through it are mentally and physically prepared to do so. The MEPS schedule details what you will have to do for a period of two days while going through the process.

MEPS is the Military Entrance Processing Station and there are about 65 of them located throughout the United States. For the most part it is a collaboration between all four military services as well as various civilian professionals who are contracted to help get people through the various stations and parts of the processing event.

After the screening process the recruiter will send your medical information and the results to the MEPS station so they will have it when you arrive. During the first day you will take the ASVAB test and it will take a few hours. IN the past it was done with pencil and paper but today it is done on computers.

There are various practice tests available but you would be doing yourself a favor by asking your recruiter for the best possible place and way to get one. They deal with this everyday and they will know which are the scams and which are real practice tests. The test is difficult so make sure you study for what is in the practice test and get a good night sleep before hand.

For the most part they are all standard medical questions about your medical history, metal health history, and anything else that they might need to know about you physically. There are some basic things that people should do before going ahead to processing to be sure they are ready. You will need a good night sleep because it will be a very long couple of days.

Once you complete the ASVAB testing your day will be finished. If you live in the general area of the MEPS station you may then go home for the night and return in the morning. If not then you will be put up in a hotel for the night with the rest of the recruits who are also in the same stage of the process as you. You will have to be sure to arrive early in the morning and on time.

They will not wait for anyone so if you happen to arrive late you will not be allowed to proceed. The physical exam portion of the test is a grueling period. Not that it is painful or anything like that, it is just a long process and there is a lot of standing and waiting in line for your turn to take some sort of physical examination by a doctor.

The MEPS schedule is not yet complete. You now have to take the physical exam which is extremely thorough. The doctors need to review your medical records and review your physical abilities and if your body can handle the strain of military life. They do their best to make that assumption based on your physical standing.
