How to Act on a Date

By Sienna Nalin

When going on a date you want your date to go flawless without any problems that one of you may complain about when it comes to manners and so forth. That is why date etiquette is the most important date advice to know and understand when you go out on a date whether it be your first date ever with that person or the hundredth date with them. You always want your partner to feel as if it is the first date all over again and that you are invested in your relationship. (Image by Miroslav Petrasko via Flickr)

Below are a few tips, a couple of insights and, hopefully, some etiquette on dating.

First dates are a gamble. Usually within minutes your date will know if they would even consider going on a second date with you. This means don't be a bore, but don't be crazy and scare your date off. Find a medium to where you are fun and enjoyable.

Be polite and put your phone away. In this day and age many people are glued to their phones. Do not be that person that is out on a date with their phone instead of with the person they came with ... their date! I've heard many stories of guys saying that the girl they were going out on a date with was on her phone the entire time.

It is time to eat, so eat as you would in front of your grandmother. By that I mean don't be a sloppy eater that let all their table manners just fly out the window. This does unfortunately tell a lot about you.

[Men only] So you made it all the way through dinner without incident. You were clever, charming and she still approves. Now it's time to pay the bill. Although chivalry is a dying art, the man should pay because it keeps you out of the friendship factor if it's a first date.

Be yourself on any date that you go on, just don't be a rude version of yourself. As everyone's parents have taught them, treat those as you would want to be treated. So while out on a date treat that person how you would want to be treated and everything should go smoothly.
