Side Effects of Zolpidem

By K. Derek Shannon

Before we start this article, it is important to know that not all side effects of Ambien have been reported. Therefore, this list may be incomplete or not include some of the symptoms which may occur. You should always report suspicious feelings to your doctor immediately upon recognition.

Zolpidem is the generic name for this medication. It is used primarily for the use of short-term treatment of insomnia. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder. If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep then you may be a victim of insomnia and should seek treatment of some sort from a doctor.

Zolpidem has been known to cause certain consumers to break out with severe allergic reactions. If you should experience any of these known symptoms of an allergic reaction then be sure to speak with a medical professional instantly for advice. The most commonly known symptoms would be rashes, breathing problems, hives, and swelling of ones face, tongue, throat, or lips.

Some of the other general Ambien side effects could include depressive disorders, anxiety problems, loss of memory, increased aggression or agitation, a lack of fear for dangerous activities, increase in risk taking behaviors, visual or audible hallucinations, easily confused, and suicidal or self harming thoughts. One needs to talk to a doctor at once if they should notice any of these problems occurring.

No patient should ever quit taking Ambien without properly consulting with a hospital or some sort of medical professional in advance. This is due to the withdrawal problems that may happen if you quit taking this drug too immediately. Only a hospital or doctor can give you proper advice on what you should do.

Some of the less serious Ambien side effects may involve irregular heartbeat, dry mouth, throat irritations, nose irritations, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, or headaches. Many of these symptoms will occur as you start taking the medication and lessen in severity over time as your body gets accustomed to it.

The adverse reactions of Zolpidem that you should be most concerned with would include trouble breathing or swallowing, chest pain, and feelings of being light headed. These may lead to serious hazards in your health and you should report them to the hospital as soon as you notice it is happening.
