What To Expect From Altoona Hospice And Palliative Care

By Gannon G. Hollick

The decisions regarding a loved one who is ill can be very taxing and stressful. There are so many issues to consider, and so much for the caretaker to learn. That is where an Altoona hospice and palliative care facility can help. The doctors, nurses and other staff at these facilities know what you are going through and know what to expect when these tragic things happen. Let them be your guide so you can rest easy knowing your loved one is in good hands.

Hospices are not quite the same thing as palliative care, though the two are often confused. Hospices may have several uses, but the most common is as a place for someone with a debilitating disease to live out their days. Since they can't be cure, the focus is no longer on curing them, but instead on making them as comfortable as possible for their remaining time.

Palliative care is a bit different from a hospice, though many times they are both done under the same roof. Palliative patients may not have a fatal disease at all. In fact, they might just be recovering from something that requires a nurse or doctor to help them along. They may have a long-term illness where they or their future caretaker need training, which most palliative centers can provide as an alternative to hiring a home nurse. Many patients eventually return home, though they may have to come back on occasion.

In both cases, the focus is on the patient's needs to make the transition from either home or hospital as easy as possible. This comfort may be provided in the form of pain medications as prescribed by a doctor, but other alternatives may be used. Some people request spiritual guides such as priests or pastors, while others seek psychological help from a therapist.

When it comes to admitting someone you love to a center, the emotional toll can be exhausting and even overwhelming. These emotions need to be dealt with before they get worse, which is why many centers also offer family members therapy sessions on either an individual or group basis. The group sessions may also be open to the public as a support group.

This type of specialized care can also be extended to patients with conditions like Alzheimer's or dementia, which requires a whole new set of skills. In fact, many places offer a separate wing or ward just for these cases, so if this is what your family member has, then rest assured they will be well cared for at all times.

If a doctor has recommended this type of facility, then most insurance plans will foot at least part, if not all, of the bill. However, there may be deductibles or co-pays involved as well. Call your plan provider and make sure that all of this is covered that way there are no surprises later on.

Altoona is home to some of the best programs for long term care in the area, which will make this transition and all the change that comes with it much easier. Rest easy knowing that dedicated medical professional are there to help you through this trying time.

Jordan Flag History And The Flag Company Inc

By Bob Hurst

In biblical times, the country that is now Jordan contained the lands of Edom, Moab, Ammon, and Bashan. Together with other Middle Eastern territories, Jordan passed in turn to the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, and, about 330 B.C. , the Seleucids. The conflict between the Seleucids and the Ptolemies enabled the Arabic-speaking Nabataeans to create a kingdom in southeast Jordan.

Jordan was one of the locations where Stone Age hunter-gatherers settled for the first time, building villages and domesticating animals. Settlement expanded during the Bronze Age (roughly 3000-1200 BC) when Jordan also features in the Old Testament record: the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah were probably located on Jordan’s side of the Dead Sea.

In 1923, Britain recognized Jordan's independence, subject to the mandate. In 1946, grateful for Jordan's loyalty in World War II, Britain abolished the mandate.

The flag of Jordan is based on the flag of the 1916 Arab Revolt, which is a similar design with the same colors, but a different order and without the star. The flag of Jordan was made official on September 2, 1920.

The flag of Jordan consists of three equal width horizontal stripes - the top stripe is black; the middle one is white, and the bottom stripe is green. On the left side of the flag is a horizontal red triangle pointing towards the middle. In the middle of the triangle is a white, seven- pointed star.

Each of the focuses on the star speaks of the one of the mainstays of Islam, the seven verses of the primary surah of the Qur'an, called the Fatihah. The shades of the stripes speak of the verifiable traditions of the district of Jordan. The dark speaks of the Arab Abbasid tradition, the white shows Umayyad line, and the green is for the Fatimid line. The red triangle is for the Hashemite Emirate, the antecedent to the current Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Kansas Flag History

By Bill Clown

Kansas, situated on the American Great Plains, became the 34th state on January 29, 1861. Its path to statehood was long and bloody: After the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 opened the two territories to settlement and allowed the new settlers to determine whether the states would be admitted to the union as "free" or"slave".

Between 1541 and 1739 explorers from Spain and France came to the area in search of gold, knowledge and trade with the Indians. In 1803, Kansas became a part of the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Fifty-one years later it was organized as a territory which included the eastern half of Colorado.

The state flag adopted on March 23, 1927, usually represented the state on official occasions. It showed the state seal without the inscriptions on its outer rim; above was the crest of Kansas as used by its National Guard a naturalistic sunflower over a heraldic wreath of yellow and blue. Complaints were raised that this flag was so close in design to those of many other states that it could not readily be identified.

The Kansas flag consists of a blue field containing the state’s seal. Just above, sits a sunflower on a gold and blue bar while the state’s name, “Kansas” appears in bold letters beneath the seal. Inside the seal appears a great landscape that depicts a flowing river, steamboat, plowman, cabin, bison, American Indians, and wagons against a backdrop of rising mountains. Above the landscape sit thirty-four stars sheltered by the words, “Ad Astra per Aspera.”

The picture of the Kansas Flag is amazing as the meaning of the state's values is expressed by it. The twisted State Crest stands for the Louisiana Purchase, which resulted in the formation of Kansas. The depiction of the state flower or the sunflower, suggests the ability of Kansas to attend and solve its problems dauntlessly. The importance of the State Seal of the flag's center does not go unnoticed as it breathes out the tale of Kansas.

The seal was framed by a sunflower, adopted in 1903 as the state floral emblem. On June 30, 1953, the state banner was very much simplified; thereafter it was blue with a large sunflower blossom, including a brown centre and gold petals. Neither of these banners, however, was extensively used. History Of Italian Flag

By Mary White

Italy, meaning the entire peninsula south of the Alps, is known as such from about the 1st century BC. Several centuries earlier, when the name first appears, it is used only of the area in the extreme south - the toe of the peninsula.

By 500 BC, a number of groups shared Italy. Small Greek colonies dotted the southern coast and island of Sicily. Gauls, ancestors of today's modern French, roamed the mountainous north. While the Etruscans, a group originally hailing from somewhere in western Turkey, settled in central Italy, establishing a number of city-states, including what is now modern-day Bologna. Little is known about the Etruscans except that they thrived for a time, creating a civilization that would pass down a fondness for bold architecture (stone arches, paved streets, aqueducts, sewers) to its successor, Rome.

The tricolor of Italy banner is accepted to have been founded on the French banner. Napoleon's troops conveyed the banner to Italy in 1797, and on January 7, 1797, the XIV parliament of the Cispadana Republic authoritatively embraced the banner.

Though the Italian Republic, constituted in 1802, adopted a new flag, the tricolor survived as the official flag of the Kingdom of Sardinia and later in 1861 as the flag of the Kingdom of Italy, helping unify the nation. On these flags, however, the Savoy crown and shield were placed at the center of the tricolor. At the end of World War II, the Italian Republic officially adopted the plain tricolor flag on June 19, 1946. Since November 1947, the Naval Jack has been added to the civil and the naval ensigns to differentiate it from Mexico's flag.

The banner of Italy components three equivalent and vertical groups, making it a tricolor banner. The derrick side has a green band; white structures the middle; and the external stripe is red. The red and white parts of the banner were obtained from the official shades of the Milanese banner, and the green was added to speak of the Civic Guards of Milan.

At the point when hung vertically, the banner is to be turned 90 degrees. The green is said to speak of the trust and euphoria, the white symbolizes peace and trustworthiness, and the red stands for quality and valor. Another translation of theItalian banner's hues is that the red demonstrates the rough battle to wind up a bound together and independent country, the green symbolizes the scenes of Italy while the white speaks of the snow-topped Alps. Today, Italy is now one of the most prosperous and democratic nations in Europe.
